South America

From Germany to South America

Unfortunately, I haven’t made much progress here yet. While I’ve been able to make a few contacts in Argentina, their origins are still largely unknown. I also have language difficulties here.

Most Calleniuses living in South America today are residents of Argentina. How the family(s) got there is still not clear to me. One clue is a Carlos Gustavo Ernesto Francisco Callenius, son of Gustavo Callenius and Thea Holznagel, who have emigrated to Rio in 1958. According to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Immigration Cards, 1900-1965, he was born on July 31, 1924, in Baden. According to the New York Passenger and Crew Lists, 1909, 1925-1957, he was also born in 1924, but in Argentina (???). One should always be very suspicious of the stated places of birth.

Whether and how this is connected to the Argentinian bearers of the same name living today is for now completely unclear. I can identify several family members in Argentina, especially through social media. However, how these are connected is also unclear. I hope for the cooperation of these family members here. I look forward to receiving your comments (info@callenius.eu).
