A poorer family in Großheppach
The Stilz family was a poorer and simpler family than the Mayer family. Sophie Marie Stilz married Hermann Jakob Mayer on February 8, 1932, in Großheppach. The groom’s father, the patriarch Friedrich Mayer (1863-1935), was not entirely happy with the marriage into the simple Stilz family and is not on the wedding picture! The suicide of the bride’s grandfather in 1917 may also have played a role. The ancestors of the bride were mostly winegrowers by profession. The Stilz family originally came from Schnait, a similar village 5 km away.
As with the Mayer family, the source material here is very good to excellent. In most of the surrounding Protestant villages, the church records date back to the mid-16th century. Many secular sources are also available.
